Website Branding for your Business

Since I’ve been in business, I can’t tell you how many times I have heard my clients say that they don’t think they need a website because they have a Facebook page!  As a business owner myself, this makes me scratch my head. Don’t get me wrong – I didn’t have all of the answers and know everything when I first started my business but, I knew I needed (and wanted) a website. Reason number one – it was mine!

You need a website

Every business needs a website. I’ll say that again…every business needs a website. Don’t get me wrong, having a Facebook page is great but, Facebook is owned by Facebook. Your website is owned by you! That doesn’t mean you can’t have a Facebook page and be successful.  Heck, you may very well have a successful business that is going strong on their now but with any change (or maybe you are already experiencing this with changes that Facebook has been making) to any social media can directly cost you sales, clients, and even your business, especially if you’ve built your entire customer base on it.

Benefits of a site

Having a website adds extra sales and can increase your following. When you create an opt-in you are drawing in your ideal clients who want to hear from you and love your products. This is how you will build your business into a success and stay on top! Without a website and an opt-in you will be missing out on those things. Plus, you are also missing out on some great SEO that leads people from google straight to your website. Which means that they don’t easily get distracted by funny cat videos and are more involved in you.

Who needs a website

If you think your business does not need a website, think again! Network Marketing (or direct sales) individuals, Service-based businesses, Boutiques, and Bloggers all need a professional website on their own domain (your very own prime piece of real estate that is yours….all yours!). Whether you use your website to talk about your products and then send them to your network marketing shop or you are selling items directly from your page, you absolutely need your own domain.

Plenty of individuals have been successful in all of the above listed businesses (Network Marketing, service-based, boutiques, etc) without having a website but, with the amount of people starting their own businesses and the increasing changes with popular social media channels it’s so important to make sure that you cover this.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen businesses go under or drastically suffer due to Facebook updates, Social Media company buy-outs, social sites fizzing out (remember MySpace?), and because their network marketing company decided to close its doors. This could have easily been avoided if these people had built their business with their website up and running.

Types of websites

Many different elements factor in to what type of website you might need. Some people need a very simple website such as WordPress just to blog on and some need something more advanced with a shopping cart and secure payment gateways added. It really depends on what type of business that you have and what your intentions are. In order to find out exactly what you need, I would start with doing some research on web designers and trying to find someone who seems like an expert to help you. Extra Tip: make sure that you like their other designs and that they seem to have built other sites in your niche, this will help to make sure you don’t go in the wrong direction.

Branding your website

So, now that I’ve convinced you {hopefully} that you need a website. It’s time to talk about branding your site. You want to make sure that your brand is an extension of you (or your business if you are not your brand). By doing that, you can create something that clients are easily drawn to. Just as you should have a logo that represents who you are, you should absolutely have a website that is an extension of that logo. Your overall brand should appear in your logo, your website, your Facebook page, your marketing materials. It should all be a matching brand. By creating a matching website that speaks to your audience and is branded – you look professional and that will draw more clients and customers to purchase from you (Hello, profits!).

When you create your brand you need to keep all elements in mind. From your marketing materials to your website, it should always be consistent! That will help you create a professional image.  When you have this in place, you look like a professional business that clients can trust.  A lot of people miss this piece of the puzzle and wonder why other businesses are successful and they are struggling.  Of course, marketing and other factors play into this but one of the key pieces to the puzzle is a professional brand, and that includes your website.

If you already have a website….Congrats!  You have your own piece of online real estate and have a way to drive traffic and increase sales for your business. Make sure that your website is branded in a way that compliments the rest of your branding (logo, business cards, social media accounts, marketing materials, etc)!  Don’t miss this important step. Having the key pieces of a cohesive brand can drastically help improve your business and when you are ready to go to the next level, you’ll have all of the ‘professional’ pieces in place that will help you get there.
