New Year, Entirely New Plan!

New Year, Entirely New Plan!

How many times have you heard someone say ‘It’s a new year, and new me!’? I hear it so much…it really doesn’t mean anything anymore. Same story…different year. Three months in (or worse, even three weeks in) your goals are shot and it’s a New year, same ole’ you! Not that there is nothing wrong with you but, we set goals that we intend to reach every year that will better us or our business and we almost never reach them.

I love the positive energy that the New Year brings, don’t get me wrong! What I don’t love is that come the following January most people are still stuck in the same place and have not reached any new goals they set for themselves and you hear it again…”New Year, New Me…for real this time” but it doesn’t always happen.

The problem? Most people do not plan for success, they do not take action towards what they want to achieve. Planning to lose 20 lbs this year but still eating pizza and drinking cokes every day, that won’t quite get you there. Making an actual plan to eat healthier and implement a workout session WILL! You plan to eat healthy starting next week, you actually go to the grocery store and buy healthy meals, plan them out, and actually cook them. That is how you make a plan and move forward with it to actually achieve success in whatever it is you are wanting to achieve.

So many times I hear from my clients what they actually would like to achieve in their business. I can see it…they can achieve it, and without too much bank-breaking hard work! The problem, they don’t implement a plan to actually achieve what it is they are wanting to achieve! Serious heartbreak for me because I want people to succeed in business! I want them to reach their goals, live their dreams, and be a success!

This year, I encourage you to do something different! Let this be the year that you take action. Whether it’s to start a new business or just grow the one you have now. It doesn’t matter where you are, you truly can reach your goals when you make an effort to strategically put in place the things that will get you where you want to be! Now, I know not everyone will hit the bull’s eye but, if you still hit the mark…you’re closer than if you would have never even tried. For example, if you aim to lose 20lbs in three months but you only lose 17 or 18…that is not failure! You’ve still hit the mark. Now, you can make a plan to re-adjust and finish reaching towards that 20+ mark.

Here are a few ways to get started planning so that you can take action instead of just wishing!

Take a look back

This is always an important step in moving forward. Looking back on the past year can help you figure out what you need to change and what you don’t! Sometimes there might be a piece of your business, your marketing, etc that just doesn’t need to be changed. If that’s the case, look at what does and make note of that.

Look at what you made the most money off of, what you enjoyed doing, and see if you were following your passion. You’ll also want to take a look at what didn’t make any money, what you didn’t enjoy doing, and what wasn’t part of chasing your passion!

Doing this will help you to figure out what you’d like to accomplish going forward and what will need to be changed versus what doesn’t.

Take a look ahead

Sometimes throughout the year we grow or change and sometimes our vision changes completely. It’s important take a look ahead and find out where you want to be this year & what you want to do and if those things don’t align with what you’ve been doing, you know it’s time to make a big change. This can be so scary but, trust me…it’s worth it!

It’s important to not just look at what you want to do or where you want to be but, to actually take action. Now that you’ve mapped out where you’re going (or would like to go) this upcoming year, take some time to put together a plan to get there. Do this now! Don’t wait and just leave it to chance or think that you will figure it out later because it’s likely you won’t!

Guide to Planning your goals for the year.

Look at your finances

As business owners, a lot of our goals are related to our income especially for those of us just starting a business. It’s so important to look at this and make sure that we are meeting our goals especially if we’ve already ditched the 9-5. It’s possible that you might have to make some decisions like cutting back on expenses, investing in programs to help you, giving yourself a raise, or raising the prices of your products/services.

Don’t be afraid to do this! It’s important as our business grows that we grow as well. If you charged lower prices because you were just starting out but are afraid to raise them now that you’ve got some experience under your belt…go for it! You deserve to charge what you’re worth.

How will you build/grow

This is something that is important to look at no matter where you are in your business or your life. We should always strive to be improving and growing. You should make plans to grow your social channels, your email list, your client base, etc. If you don’t have an email list or something else you need, it’s time to plan on starting it and where you’d like to be each month. This is so important!

If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there – Lewis Carroll. You don’t want to just be on any road at all. You’ll look up at the end of the year and more than likely won’t be anywhere near where you had hoped. This is why it’s so important to look at these things every year (and re-evaluate each quarter).

I’d love to know…
